Gherkin
History and Lore
Gherkin was only known to the channel for a short period, having appeared only in two streams. In what turned out to be one of the most eventful and historic livestreams, while at The Loop Subcolony where Cloud is typically fed, an extremely hungry and very small black and white kitten was found completely alone. This was very late in the kitten season with the current rescue situation completely at capacity. It became a controversial topic as many viewers in the chat continued to urge Apoinsettia to trap and bring the kitten in. This led to lengthy conversations around over-capacity issues posing a significant health risk to all of the rescued cats by not allowing ample quarantining and posing threats of infectious disease. Outside of stream, Apoinsettia was able to coordinate with another feeder, return and trap Gherkin, pass her into their care, and have him transported up north to be adopted into a home. Apoinsettia decided to name her Gherkin after the ordeal.
Theories
Some months after Gherkin had been rescued, an unneutered male cat who had never before been seen who would be named Ice Cream Truck emerged in the viscinity. Though not in the exact same location, the close proximity and tendency for unneutered males to wander in search of mates, moderator Peppperjam speculated that this could be Gherkin's father. Without DNA evidence, it is only speculation, but interesting to consider.
