Catch of the Day
History and Lore
Catch of the Day is a cat that was discovered as a kitten at The Trucks Subcolony and trapped to be rescued on their first and only channel appearance. When Apoinsettia was notified of a tuxedo kitten at the location, he came prepared for the late October stream with traps ready. In relatively short order, the kitten was spotted, appearing to be about 2-3 months old. A trap was set and fairly quickly Catch of the Day was caught. When brought back to the car, Catch of the Day was extremely vocal and knocked over food in the trap, creating a mess on the car seat. A poll ensued to name the kitten and Catch of the Day was the clear winner.
Catch of the Day was trapped with the intent to be passed off to an adopter. Immediately following the trapping, the more chaotic aspect of the trapping ensued. Apoinsettia was coordinating a handoff through Feeder L, another area feeder, with the adopter. Feeder L had mentioned the adopter was in the area and witnessed Apoinsettia feeding, without having said anything. After a number of texts, calls, time, stress and confusion, finally a call was answered. However, the intended adopter was actually this individual's mother who lived 3 hours away. The daughter "middle-manning" the operation and speaking to Apoinsettia was leaving on a trip the following day. In the end, Apoinsettia was able to coordinate with Feeder L to take the kitten temporarily.
Catch of the Day would find her way to the permanent home and would be named Winston.
Personality
Being a feral kitten and only being present on the channel on one occasion for their trapping, as expected, Catch of the Day is shy. Not having a chance to be socialized with humans, this is to be expected. When trapped, Catch of the Day made a considerable amount of vocalizations at first, but then calmed down considerably and became much more docile to where Apoinsettia was able to take him by the scruff of his neck and remove him from the trap. However, in the process, they did attempt to bite Apoinsettia.
Appearance
Catch of the Day is a tuxedo kitten, predominantly black with a white bib, some white on the belly, white toes and rather long white whiskers.
